The Influence of Beatrix Potter

Peter Rabbit in Mother Gooseland

The Tale of Peter Rabbit immediately captured the imagination of children as well as authors of other children's books. Some illustrators successfully imitated her uncanny ability to humanize animals while retaining their distinctive animal features. Some seemed to try, but without success. We present two galleries of images displaying the wide range of imitations of Peter Rabbit and the myriad ways in which rabbits have been depicted since Beatrix Potter.
