Description

The structure on the corner of Franklin and Hempstead Street operated as the jail for the city of New London from 1845 to 1962. Reports from 1873 regard the jail as one of the best facilities in the whole country due to its high levels of cleanliness and order. In 1962 the building became the Shiloh Baptist Church which remains intact in today in 2019. Additionally, the structure is considered a New London Landmark and part of the Historic Hempstead District
