Ancient Burial Grounds
New London's burial place is one of the oldest in New England, dating back to the 1600s. Numerous early prominent inhabitants of the city are buried here. The Nathan Hale School, visible in these postcards, was moved to the burial ground in 1901 and then relocated around the city throughout the twentieth century, ending next to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in 1988.
