Custom House
The New London Custom House is one of the city's most notable historic sites, given that in 1839-40 it was involved in the auctioning of the cargo of the Amistad, the site of an uprising by captive Africans headed to the United States to be sold into slavery. Built in 1833, the Custom House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now managed by the New London Maritime Society, and hosts a permanent exhibition about the Amistad.
